Tuberous Jerusalem Sage flowers in June and July with pinkish-violet whorls of flowers, which sit at intervals on the stem like storeys. It comes from the eastern European steppes, survives drought effortlessly and is planted in prairie plantings. The flowers are well filled with nectar and are visited by honeybees and bumblebees alike.
