Self-heal flowers from June to September in meadows, lawns and on roadsides and stays so low that it survives the lawnmower. Its violet flowers sit in short, cylindrical spikes. Where the lawn is not cut too often, it makes, together with white clover, a widespread if quiet summer flow. British measurements give around 139 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 589 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 324 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
