Bastard Balm flowers in May and June in open deciduous woodland and on warm woodland margins, mostly on limestone. For a member of the mint family it bears strikingly large white flowers with a pink lower lip. Its German name already reveals that it was known as a bee plant. The nectar sits deep, so mainly bumblebees collect it and honeybees follow on.
