The Dog's-tooth Violet flowers in March and April with nodding, pinkish-red flowers whose petals are sharply turned back. Its bulb has the shape of a canine tooth, hence the name. It grows in the mountain forests of southern Europe and is planted in shade beds. It flowers very early and then provides pollen and nectar.
