Horseshoe Vetch flowers from May to July with golden yellow flower heads on poor limestone grassland, rock ledges and sunny embankments. Its pods break up into horseshoe-shaped segments, hence the name. It stays low and forms flat cushions. On poor limestone sites it is one of the reliable forage plants of early summer.
