Greater Burdock flowers from July to September with purple flower heads whose bracts end in the well-known barbed hooks. It grows over two metres tall and grows on rubble sites, along paths and on stream banks. The flowers give plenty of nectar and are heavily worked by honeybees, bumblebees and butterflies in high summer.
