The Strawberry Tree flowers from October to December, while the previous year's fruits still hang red on the shrub. It grows in the maquis and in Portugal, Sardinia and Corsica. Its honey is dark and distinctly bitter, but is considered a speciality and fetches high prices. For colonies in southern Europe it is one of the last forage plants of the year.
