Tommasini's Crocus flowers in February and March with delicate, pale violet flowers, making it one of the earliest crocuses of all. It comes from the Balkans, naturalises in lawns and spreads by itself through cormlets and seed. On the first warm days it provides plenty of orange pollen and is taken up immediately. British measurements give around 50 micrograms of sugar per flower per day.
