Common Toadflax flowers from May to October and provides a moderate amount of nectar with a low pollen value. It is a perennial of dry roadsides, railway embankments and arable fallows and spreads by root runners. The nectar sits deep in the spur, which honeybees can reach only with difficulty. Because of its very long flowering period it nevertheless remains a useful minor flow. British measurements give around 544 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 4,090 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 652 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
