Ribbed Melilot flowers from May to September and provides good nectar with an equally good pollen value. It is biennial, grows up to two metres tall and grows on rubble sites, embankments and poor raw soils. Its yellow racemes yield for many weeks and are still visited even in dry weather. In sown mixtures and on fallow land it is one of the most reliable summer forage plants. British measurements give around 20 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 8,498 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 107 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
