The Glandular Globe-thistle flowers in July and August with greyish white flower balls on stems taller than a person. It comes from south-eastern Europe and has become naturalised here on rubble sites and railway land. The balls open from the outside inwards and are besieged by bees for days. It is one of the best summer forage plants of all.
