The Common Houseleek flowers in July and August with star-shaped, pinkish-red flowers on a thick stem that shoots up from the leaf rosette. Afterwards the rosette dies, while the daughter rosettes remain. It used to grow on thatched roofs; today it grows on walls and green roofs and is well worked by bees.
