The Callery pear flowers in April with dense white corymbs, shortly before the cultivated pear. It comes from East Asia, tolerates heat and compacted soils and is therefore increasingly planted as a street tree. The flowers have a pungent smell, but are well accepted and provide nectar and pollen in spring.
