Flowering currant flowers from March to May with striking, carmine-red flower clusters, before the foliage is fully out. It comes from North America and grows as an ornamental shrub in many front gardens. It flowers very early and over several weeks, making it a valuable flow of early spring in built-up areas. British measurements give around 934 micrograms of sugar per flower per day.
