Bergenia flowers in March and April with thick, pink flower panicles above leathery, evergreen leaves. It comes from Siberia, withstands frost and drought and grows in many front gardens and parks. The flowers are open and provide nectar and pollen early in the year, often before the fruit blossom begins. British measurements give around 872 micrograms of sugar per flower per day.
