Tree heath flowers from February to May and in southern Europe grows to head height or even tree-like. Its root burls provide the wood for briar pipes. The many small white bells are well visited and yield a dark, tangy honey. For apiaries in Portugal, Corsica and Sardinia it is the decisive flow of early spring.
