The balloon flower flowers in July and August and provides moderate nectar with a moderate pollen value. It is a perennial from East Asia, grows twenty to a hundred centimetres tall and is widespread in gardens. Its buds swell up like balloons before opening, hence the name. As a garden perennial it supplements the supply in high summer.
