The common bluebell flowers in April and May and turns whole woods blue in England and north-western France. In our region it grows in gardens and has naturalised in places. The fragrant, nodding bells are well filled with nectar and are busily visited by bumblebees and honeybees in spring. British measurements give around 113 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 46,120 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 31 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
