Arnica flowers in June and July with large, orange-yellow flower heads on poor mountain meadows and mat-grass swards. It needs acidic, nutrient-poor soils and has declined sharply due to fertilisation, which is why it is protected. It is well known as a medicinal plant; for the colony it remains a small minor flow of mountain areas.
