Alpine currant flowers in April and May with small greenish-yellow flowers in upright racemes. It is dioecious, tolerates shade and pruning and is therefore planted in huge numbers as a hedge in public green spaces. The male shrubs provide pollen, the female ones some nectar. In towns this adds up to a lot.
